Chapter III

Foreign Service Oral Assessment (FSOA)

The FSOA is composed of three sections: Group Exercise, Written Exercise and Structured Interview. This chapter provides recommendations on how to prepare for each of these sections. Please review the sections of Chapter I related to the FSOA.

The FSOA includes three different assessments, a Group Exercise, a Written Exercise and a Structured Interview.

A likely schedule for the FSOA would look as follows:

7:00 AM Arrive at Assessment Center

7:45 AM - 8:30 AM Registration and Agenda

You will need to turn in your statement of interest and put all your belongings away.

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM Group Exercise

10:30 AM - 10:45 AM Break

10:45 AM - 12:15 PM Written Exercise

12:15 PM - 2:15 PM Break/Lunch

You will likely have 90-120 minutes for lunch. You can use your phone during the break, but remember to turn it off and put it away as soon as you return to the Assessment Center.

2:15 PM - 3:15 PM Structured Interview

3:15 PM - 3:45 PM Break

3:45 PM - 4:45 PM Exit interviews
